Follicular Multiplication

Several researchers and, in particular, Dr. Kim of Korea, discovered a few years ago that if you split the upper and lower portions of hair follicles such that the dermal papilla is left in the skin and the upper section, which includes the bulge and sebaceous gland area, is transplanted in a different area of the skin, you may grow two hairs. Unfortunately, the hairs will not be full-sized cosmetically elegant hairs. The hairs will be miniaturized short-growing hairs which do not contribute to the overall success of the hair transplant in a significant way. For this reason, I do not recommend the concept of follicular multiplication. In fact, since there is usually sufficient donor hair in almost every case to transplant the entire head, there is absolutely no justification for this type of idea. This concept has been used by a clinic in Europe, but amounts to no more than an experiment with an idea already clearly defined by Dr. Kim several years ago.
